Course fee: £975 Understanding and Engaging in Trauma-Informed Practice CPD (Continuing Professional Development) is a Masters level, credit-bearing course, giving you 15 credit points, equivalent to a degree module at the University of Sussex.
The course will enable students to gain an in-depth understanding of the theory behind trauma-informed practice along with practical skills that can be applied by both frontline practitioners and those in senior management roles.
It is taught 100% online, offering students the opportunity to learn alongside their professional and personal commitments.

Course overview
The course is taught by the University of Sussex’s Department of Social Work and Social Care. It is aimed at practicing professionals from a range of disciplines and professional settings where interacting with traumatized children, young people, families, and communities is common, including social work, policing and criminal justice, education, and health.
It explores trauma-informed practice as a framework for understanding the impact of trauma, and how professionals can work effectively to help people begin feeling safe, stable, healthy, and resilient amidst adversity.

It is expected that the course will require up to 20 hours study time per week, including a weekly hour-long live seminar. Due to the flexibility of online learning, students can choose to undertake their study hours whenever it best fits around professional and personal commitments.
Assessments include weekly reflective activities and a final paper focused on applying principles of trauma-informed practice in direct work and/or organisational contexts.

School of Education and Social Work
A lower second-class (2.2) undergraduate honours degree or above from any UK university or international equivalent.
Your qualification should be in social work, criminology, education, or psychology. However, other backgrounds will be considered if you have a relevant qualification, for example, a diploma in Social Work or a Post Qualification Degree in Social Work (PQSW), and are now working as a social worker, teacher, police officer, or healthcare worker.
Applicants whose first language is not English and whose first degree was not taught in English need to supply evidence of IELTS (Academic) high level (6.5 overall, including at least 6.0 in each component).
