Sussex energy expert announced as lead author in major climate report

Professor Benjamin Sovacool Director of the Centre of Innovation and Energy Demand (CIED) at the University of Sussex, has been announced as a lead author of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Sixth Assessment Report. The report, which is due to be published in 2022, will provide countries and governments with an objective, scientific view of global climate change and its impacts.

Professor Sovacool will be a member of the Working Group III, responsible for assessing the mitigation of climate change, and lead author for the fourth chapter of the report ‘Mitigation and development pathways in the near-to mid-term’.

Professor Sovacool commented:

“I am honoured and humbled to be a part of the world’s premier scientific body seeking to identify actionable solutions to climate change. Without overstatement, climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing humanity, and the IPCC is working on cutting-edge solutions across the disciplines of science and technology as well as economics, public policy, and ethics.”
