1000,000 kWh generated by our solar panels
As home to some of the world’s leading sustainability academics, the University of Sussex is on a mission to become one of the UK’s greenest universities.
In October 2017, MP Caroline Lucas visited the University of Sussex’s Falmer campus to switch on our new installation of solar panels, the biggest installation at any UK university.
Since their switch on the panels have generated more than 100,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) of energy; the equivalent of one person’s energy use over 40 years, or the energy needed to run 28 homes for a year.
Director of Estates and Facilities Management, Simon Neale said;
“We’re delighted to have reached this generation milestone even quicker than forecast. By this October, the panels will have produced enough electricity to power our Library for a year.”
By 2021 the University of Sussex’s aims to cut its carbon admissions by half.
