Why study supply chain management? Five reasons to choose Sussex

Looking to launch or progress your career in supply chain management?

Our online Masters course has been designed by industry insiders to help develop the next generation of logistics leaders.

Read on to discover five reasons why our Global Supply Chain Management MSc (online) might be right for you.

1. You’ll explore contemporary supply chain challenges

The curriculum of our online course has been developed in direct response to our increasingly volatile world and the near-constant changes that threaten supply chain resilience.

Informed by the latest research, our course will arm you with the contemporary insights and skills needed to navigate such disruptions, and to manage and modernise highly complex supply chains.

You’ll explore challenges relating to digitisation, sustainability, AI, blockchain technology and ethical procurement across 12 modules, as well as engaging with real-world challenges via business case studies and peer discussions.

2. You can study at our double accredited Business School from anywhere in the world

Studying online with the University of Sussex offers the chance join our research-active EQUIS (European Quality Improvement System) and AMBA (Association of Master of Business Administration) accredited Business School – all from the comfort of your own home.

With six start dates to choose from throughout the year and a 100% online delivery model, you can study when it suits you, with no need to pause your career or sacrifice other important commitments.

Depending on your preferences and personal circumstances, you can choose to complete the course anywhere between two and four years, with the option to pause your studies if you need to.

3. You’ll become a member of two professional accreditation bodies while you study

For the duration of the course, you’ll become a member of both the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) and the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS): two professional accreditation bodies setting the industry standard for logistics professionals.

Both CILT and CIPS offer members:

  • access to their global network of supply chain professionals
  • the latest industry news and insights to ensure you keep pace with new developments and best practices
  • the chance to attend industry events, hear from thought leaders and connect with fellow professionals.

4. You’ll learn from experts shaping the future of supply chain management

Tutors on the Global Supply Chain Management course have a wealth of industry and academic experience, with many actively conducting research on the likes of supply chain ethics, sustainability, innovative technologies and how geo-political disruptions (like the war in Ukraine and Brexit) are transforming logistics around the world.

As well as teaching at Sussex, our academics have also published books, featured in the media (Financial Times, Guardian, BBC) and conducted research and policy analysis for organisations and institutions including the UK government, the European Union and the World Bank.

5. You can work on a real-world project and prove your expertise to employers

While the course provides a solid understanding of the key theories that underpin supply chain management, our course is practically focused, offering the chance to apply new learnings in real scenarios.

In addition to smaller tasks and simulations throughout, the course concludes with a ‘Practice Infused Project’ in which you’ll take the knowledge and skills gained from the previous 11 modules and use these to conduct consultancy work for a real organisation.

You will be able to shape your project according to your specific interests by selecting a case study that is relevant to your current workplace or future career goals, presenting the opportunity to raise your profile and demonstrate your value to existing or prospective employers.
