Student stories: Suman Basnet, Energy Policy MSc (online)
Suman Basnet is a self-employed renewable energy consultant based in Nepal.
In this blog, Suman tells us why he enrolled on our online Energy Policy MSc course, how he plans to use his Masters degree to implement sustainable policies in developing economies, and why distanced, online learning was the right option for him.
Therefore, to further enhance my expertise in renewable energy consulting, I wanted to gain specialised knowledge in energy policy formulation and implementation to come up with viable, sustainable options for energy policies in developing economies like Nepal. Not wanting to be away from my family and work for a prolonged period of time, I had been looking for a world-class but fully online Masters course in energy policy.
While searching for a suitable course, I came across the online MSc in Energy Policy at the University of Sussex. In addition to the contents of the course – which covers aspects of policy formulation and the links between energy policy and various facets of development – what further attracted me was its interdisciplinary approach and the fact it is based on real-world energy policy issues and state-of-the-art research. Furthermore, it was a fully online course, so I could do it from the comfort of home at my own pace. Its study requirements of about 20 hours a week over 2 to 4 years suited the pace at which I wanted to do my Masters studies.
