University of Sussex magazine, Falmer, wins global excellence award

The University of Sussex has won a worldwide global excellence award for its annual alumni magazine, Falmer.

Falmer has been awarded bronze in the magazine category of the 2019 Circle of Excellence Awards by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).

Almost 3,000 entries were received, across 100 categories and from 20 countries.

Commenting on Falmer, the judges said: “This is a really nice, creative magazine. It packs a lot into 48 pages without being overwhelming. Smart writing and strong design with a nice mix of great photography and illustration.”

The editor of the magazine, Sally Atkinson, Alumni Relations Manager, said: “Congratulations and thanks go to everyone who plays a role in making Falmer so engaging. “It’s a truly collaborative effort and we’re lucky in being able to draw upon a rich seam of content from current Sussex research and inspiring alumni stories.”

The magazine is primarily created for alumni and supporters of the University, however its readership also includes staff, students and visitors to campus and those in the local community. 75,000 copies are printed each year, and 45,000 people receive the digital version of the magazine.

The 2019 issue will be published in July.
